With a little persistence and luck being on my side, I was able to get my first winter steelhead of the year. If you caught a steelhead this year and have a photo to share, post it here and let everyone see these awesome fish!

My girlfriend and I hit the sandy yesterday and as I was tying a jig on her rod we see a fish role and so I tell her to grab my rod, 2 cast later and she hooks this beast. We had to chase it down stream around trees and bushes and it was nearly impossible to grab hold of him, but we got lucky again when a boat offered there net. It measured about 36" and as luck would have it 5 minutes after the release she wanted to go home.

Went out and made it happen today. Middle Fork Willamette, a few minutes from Springfield. Heavy frosted red Lured bead under a Cleardrift float.

If I must. Got this buck today, my scale broke but he was 30 inches. Went to a favorite hole and saw 3 or 4 swimming around but I spent 2 hours and couldn't get em to bite. Jigs, beads, spinners, worms, pretty much everything I had. So frustrating when you watch your presentation go right by them and they don't hit it. So I moved on down river to a spot I love and 1st cast, just like last time, BAM! This boy was hot and gave quite an aerial show, tore up river past me and I was reelng full speed trying to catch up. Excellent fight, I had a #3 blue fox on 15 lb maxima and i'm glad. I doubt my 4-10 lb, drift rod with 8 lb. leader could have landed this fish, he was angry!

A little beauty hen that I took home today, measuring 28" long. Showed up late, but was still able to pull one out of a spot not being fished. Great fish to break in my new drift rod.

Second one for the week. This one was a 27.5" buck with an attitude, best fighting fish I have had this year!

Went out to my fav summer steelie spot to scout for early arrivers. Got there at the crack of noon expecting to check several holes hoping to spot a couple. First hole I stopped at after watching for a few minutes I spotted a slow moving shadow. Went back to the truck and retrieved my favorite summer spinner and was rewarded with this shiny hen

It has been nice to see the fishing pick up to a little more like normal after the the last two years of disappointment. Lots of double digit hookup days until the rubber hatched and put them down. Also nice to see BIG fish all year. 20 fish in the 30 inch class and a lot more around 27 or 28.

Also fun to find one during the madness on the 4th while the wives were swimming around and the dog was chasing her stick in the drift all afternoon. Last cast fish.
