Time to Fight

What about writing letters? I know it's sorta the old school way of gettin stuff done but it's a start. I wouldn't have a clue what to write or where to send it, but it might get us somewhere. Plus we've got over a thousand members. I know it would be impossiable to get them all to write letters but I think we could get quite a few people into this. It sure would be funny to see a line of mailmen parked out in front of the headquarters carrying sacks of letters:lol:, that alone would make it worth it.

thumbs up for yall for even thinking about it:dance::)
yea time to get the good ol' days back... what do you say...

Allright I got an idea on how we can shine a little light on this. I've got a buddy who is a herpetologist( studies reptiles), and works for various agencies including ODFW. He also knows a few people at OPB that work on the oregon field guide. If anyones interested in being a TV star for 15 minutes and talk about the current state of oregons salmon and steelhead runs I might be able to talk them into doing a show about it. I can think of two chrome pilaging pirates and a spinner maker that would make good candidates;). This might help a lot more people get behind the banning of gill nets, and gain support for oregons chrome hunters.

I haven't talked to him in a while since he broke up with his girlfriend. But I think I can atleast get a number. I don't know if Oregon Field Guide will be down with this, But maybe me or my bud can sweet talk them into doin a show.

:clap::clap: good work... im happy that a lot of anglers are waking up, but we can't just go out and ban everything. yes commercial fishery is a major player, but at the same time there are other things that are important too... just a thought:D

Newport meeting

Newport meeting

ODFW is talking about closing several rivers for Chinook this fall, knowing full well that the numbers are there. Alaska upped their commercial catch by 28%, and BC by 18% because we will have a strong Columbia run while leaving thier runs alone. Time to start writing nasty government letter. They are discussing openning some limited native Coho on some rivers but it would be total of 200 fish per system, if they decide to do it. Once again commercial guys get whatever they want and the rest of us suffer. Something must change.

surprisingly we are the only state in US who allows inland gilnetting. Talk bout salmon conservation huh ?????

Not the only state, have seen gill nets as much as 50 miles upriver here on some rivers. The gill netters caused the closure of all fishing here on the Chehalis river. Won't stop here soon either, not with beloved Gr***** in charge. Not when she gets hundreds of thousands for campaign funds to protect their casinos and fishing rights. If we taxed them at half what we tax everyone else we wouldn't have a deficit here.

Let them use tooth nets and selective fish if they get to net at all. Monitor the nets 24/7 and immediately release native fish. They keep what we can keep.

I will say I am glad it is that bad down there too, thought it was only up here that things were so screw balled.:rolleyes:

Big money intrests

Big money intrests

The current set up with the compacts and treaties with other states cater to big money. We are fighting over approx 2% of the run after adult recruitment and spawning. Commercial intrests are taking 30%(approx.) of the toatal run of a particular spiecies, then sportsman are given 10% of the run above minimum requirements for production. If the minimum numbers are too close to minimums for production, POOF season closure. Season closure for fisherman, not commercials. It takes two years of "catastrophic" run failures to force commercial fisheries to "curtail" thier catch..20%...and give us a better fishery in the year to follow.
