Hit up the south santiam today on my day off, went where Sageflyguy caught his two fish and saw a couple guys get limits. I used eggs sand shrimp and worms and caught a good sized rainbow on the worm. Does anyone have any advice for me I'm still very new to this and unfortunately only have one day a week to fish. I had all my gear ready so I wasted little time except for fooling around with a bobber set up. Basically id be overjoyed just getting to keep one for the whole summer lol anywaysany tips or help is appreciated, thanks!

My co-worker fishes there every week, and almost always tags at least one per trip. He used peach colored corky & peach colored yarn. IDK, if he uses a bobber, or drifts it. But, I'd guess that either would work fine.

Thanks! Can't wait to try again

Hey NBD ,

I just got home from Paulina lake about an hour ago , it was snowing so I decided to cut the trip short.

From what I hear this time of year Corky and Yarn seems to work about the best down there. Bobber and Jig from what I hear is best used earlier in the year , Why I dont know. As for colors , personally I think it just turns off and on for which to use. I nabbed my first steelhead sunday on Pink Corky and Blue Yarn and on tuesday I got my other steelie on Pink Corkie and Pink yarn. Wednesday I got completely skunked , the guy next to me was using a Bright Orange corky and matching yarn , he hooked 4 in 5 casts and went home with 3 steelhead.

I might head down there and give it a whirl later this afternoon , I will need to check the water level. They have been playing withn this a bit and along with the salmon moving into the water system a bit more this will all cause the bite to slow down a ton. I am very new to steelhead fishing , but I plan on making several trips for the remainder of this weekend , throughout the week before work and then again next weekend , if you are at all interested hit me up and I would be happy to share what little knowledge I have with you , in hopes of you landing your steelhead.

Jer

Thanks for the advice, there is a small chance I could go tomorrow. I was drift fishing the whole time but I realized I needed waders. I threw pink, green, Orange and white at them. I saw at least ten caught. I'm still in the learning process. Only trouble is I don't know how well I would do drifting with such tight quarters. The guy I talked to yesterday caught his three just on a corkie and hook. I wish I could catch three! Haha
