Wilson Searuns...
I hit the Wilson on Sunday, fished around the Narrows... Nothing at first, but went to long casting some small subsurface Steelhead flies (#6 - 8)... and the bite was on. I caught 9 fish all over 12" with two pushing the 18" mark.... stopped counting the small Cuttroat, Rainbows and smolts (3 -9 inchers). Hooked one nice 27" native Steelhead hen. Had a couple of bait fishermen look at me like I was the Devil himself. Recommended they try tossing a Colorado spinner with a worm, but got a 'one finger salute' for the advice.
I was fishing a 10.5 foot 5/6 weight rod with Rios line with a 12' fast sink on it, then tipped with 4# fluorocarbon at the end of a 8' sinking tippet. Lots of long cast drifts with multiple mends.
Mainly did catch-n-release, but kept one 14" due to a bad impact with a rock on one of it's jumps. I had him solid hooked in the just inside the end of the beak, but the impact damaged the gill rakes and he was bleeding heavy, rolling belly up and not reviving. Good news is he tasted great at dinner Monday night.
