Holy hell. This whole cluster-F of a thread makes me sad for the future (or lack thereof) of salmon and steelhead fishing. The ignorance of a few is going to F us all. There is absolutely no excuse for any of this crap. Split shot on the hook shank?! Are you effing kidding me, good lord.!!!

While I agree that weight on the hook is clearly unlawful according to regulation, I fail to see in the regs where a bead 3" up is unlawful? It might be unethical, but I might need some explanation for why?

For the record, I've never run a bead that way, so for the time being, I've not exercised what might be a questionable technique. But, I don't yet see a problem with it. I also don't see how adding some shot a short ways above it, when run under a float as was mentioned earlier, is any different than running a yarn ball in a similar fashion, which has been advised here in the forum.

the only reason i run the bead 3in above the hook is becuz that is the way i was tought to do it and it catch's fish so yeah

Wow there's some drama queens here.
Could of simply said shot on the shank was illegal. The rest of the ranting was not needed and it was just an idea since I've noticed jigs don't tangle as often.
The shot distributed across the leader gives it momentum so it doesn't drag behind the float/weight and get tangled.
Bead fishing is considered dirty because it is cheap and effective.
The idea of flossing doesn't even cross my mind.

Ay Caramba!! :wall: Let's all sit back and breathe deeply. One of the best features of this forum is the teaching that goes on every day.:D It seems like some folks are more prone to pitching a hissy fit first and then informing folks of what's what. How about we all try it the other way around? Inform folks of what is legal, ethical and acceptable first, if the advice is ignored...have at your hissy fits! Sheesh! :protest:

why Barb? a judge would tell them all that ignorance is no excuse.. why can we not expect folks to educate themselves in the law PRIOR to wetting a worm? why does this country always have to side with the person who is being stoned.. perhaps they deserve it, perhaps stoning will cause the younger generation to seek advice early, as apposed to desperately reaching for excuses.. then labeling me the abbrasive one... their ignorance is abbrasive.. and tough love is the best love, there are no trophy's here for the loser, trying is not enough.... time for americans to accept responsibility for their actions and start acting like ****ing adults...

You are right that people should read the regs first. But at the same time some of the ranting would be better served with a bit softer touch. No one likes seeing people breaking the rules. Rather than having a guy or gal say screw this forum, there are just a bunch of angry people on it and continue doing things wrong, try encouraging them to learn the right way. I, myself am trying to learn how to fish rivers up here and I am used to fishing in southern california salt water. Let me tell you, the rules up here are abundant to say the least. I personally keep two sets of regs on me when I fish so that I can make sure I am doing the right thing and teaching my daughter right too. I enjoy this forum as it is a great learning tool. My two cents may not mean much, but I personally look to more experienced people for guidance and when I can I pass on what I have learned. :)

Yep, no excuse.

Yep, no excuse.

Maybe you need to chill out and dial it back and have a little respect for other people in this forum rather than posting your offensive ramblings. There are more important things in this world to get upset about such as homelessness and malnutritioned children. People come to this forum to learn and be respected while doing so.
