I usually use a gold one, but anything shiny seems to work consistently. As for size, it's 1/4 oz on 6lb test with an ultralight rod. My setup allows me to gast a good distance, and with a big fish the ultralight is a lot of fun!
Sure! I troll them all of the time from my canoe, but usually just while I am paddling to the spot I want to fish. I have caught a lot of fish this way as well. One word of advice, put a small swivel on the end to keep your line from getting twisted up.

So are the smaller Kastmasters any good? I looked last night and I have a few of the 1/8 ones (I think) that I've never even used in my box.

I'm sure they work, but I use the 1/4 oz versions because I can cast them a great distance. That said if you already have them in your tackle box, give them a try!

Heck, I'll give them a try. Better than spending more $$ just to get a bigger size. I am going up to Clear Lake tomorrow. I'll try em out up there and keep you guys posted. No promises though, I have HORRIBLE luck with lures!ray:
