Wow, another great day!

The Enterprise and I, started out by picking up a fellow OFFer here in Corvallis: Mahmichael. We loaded up, and headed out at 4:00 a.m. with coffee in tow. We arrived at our destination (Olalla Reservoir), about 5:15. We grabbed a good spot, and had our lines in the water by 5:30.

Here's a pic of the first fish, it's a dink perch, but it counts! Michael got that one.

We also met some very nice peeps, from the Mid Willamette Valley Angler's Club. They were holding their own derby at the lake. We were surrounded, but they were all very kind and fun to chat with. Most of them were from the Salem area.

Michael will have some pics to add to this. BTW, Michael it was a real pleasure to meet you. Thank you for riding along and for your great company! Michael got his limit, and I kept four decent fish (lost others and c & r'd several too.

Now, for another reason why I went fishing. Another friend's young son, has just returned from boot camp. So, after a nap back at Star Fleet Academy (my home in Corvallis); I proceeded north to Keizer. The fish that I got, were fileted by a young lady that knew what she was doing (my boot camp buddie's girl friend...sorry, forgot to get a pic). Here are pics of the chef (my buddy Jerry), and another son's girlfriend enjoying some cedar plank smoked--freshly caught via Olalla Reservoir rainbow trout! The spoils went to my friends; as Uncle Jay (a.k.a. Troutdude) was too dang stuffed by a BBQ Cheeseburger and fresh Strawberry Short Cake!!!

In short; an epic day for one Troutdude!

I'd be interested in knowing how to filet a trout if you care to share.
I learned how to "skin" trout so I'd share that info with you.

It looks like you guys had a great day - good for you!

Thanks guys. It was a blast.

Woz, sorry but I don't know how to filet them. I didn't think about it at the time; but I probably should have paid more attention to show she did it (and even gotten a pic or three).

Randy, it is a GREAT feeling to get out and about again. My arm feels it some; but not too badly. Now, I'm working hard to catch up from my down time!

What will it be next week? Trout? Bass? Summers? Springers? Panfish Cats? So little time; and so many species to pick from!

My grandfather was a master trout filleter. First time I tried, I pretty much ruined the darn things. There are quite a few videos on YouTube, but personally, I don't think anything beats a cedar plank preparation just like you see above. It's pretty easy to deal with the bones and you don't risk ruining all that hard work with poor knife skills. Bigger fish though, worth the effort, in my opinion.

Great story & pics, Troutdude! I'm off see if I can't catch a limit myself.

What a great day. Thanks TroutDude, you're awesome!
Troutdude told everything, so I just add some pictures! ;)

Troutdude's first catch of the day!

Look at him!!

And the biggest of the day! 16 inches.

And the end of the day! We left around 11 am. Although my biggest fish had the same size as TD's smallest, the day was my best day of trout fishing. Thanks Jay!

Nice fish guys! That fish club you have laying on the ground behind the chair is a little over-kill though! Randy

ROTFL!!! Actually, that is my hammer for the pole holders. But, I did use it on the biggest fish...and it was like playing "Whack-A-Mole". It only took ONE swing!

Thanks for posting Michael. I hope your girlfriend liked her Cosmos Carmel Corn.

She's loving it. That stuff is really good.

What a great ending (for us, not for the fish of course!)

Nice job guys and nice pics. Did someone say Cosmos? Yum

Wow. A candlelit trout dinner, complete with M & M's! Nice. I'm glad she like her carmel corn too.

I'm glad that you had a good day. It was fun for me, to help you get some fish.

Sidebar: I've known the fellow who created Cosmos, for about 9 years. I met him, at the first trade show that he went to in Salem. He's a great guy. But, he's not too good at marketing so he sold out a couple of months ago. Luckily, the guys who bought it are good marketers and have kept it going. They are now housed next to the J. City Les Schwab; and are no longer HQ'd in Eugene.

Michael and I happened to stumble onto some of their product, at a mini mart in Toledo. We didn't hesitate to buy some, for our return trip (and Michael's GF).

I saw your rig there Saturday TD

Oh wow! It would've been fun, to meet you. But, I didn't know that you were there.

Did you have luck on the water?

Great job guys. Looks like it was a fantastic day.

I do have to laugh because the 3rd picture. The smiley face is placed perfectly over the hand. That looks like a great day
