How far would you hike?

@ PNW Sam - Nice pack there Sam. I used to have a Dakine pack during highschool. It lasted me about 6 years!! Sounds like you got a good deal there. I have been well please with my pack. It is about 8 years old now and might be time to get a new one sometime soon.

Come March of next year, I will get my REI dividend and hopefully get a new pack and a hiking GPS.

I think my pack would do well on an overnight hike, but if I got in to like a 3 or 4 day hike I'd need something bigger. I'll probably look in to a bigger pack next summer. I want to do a long hike in to multiple high Cascade lakes in one trip so that will take a few days.

Also, getting a GPS is such a good idea. My dad just got his first GPS this summer and it's pretty nice to have. Even when you are in familiar areas that you won't get lost in it's cool to see how far you have gone and what your path was.

Nice. That trip should be good. Yeah, a GPS is nice. I am fine using a map and all but sometimies it is just a peace of mind knowing that you can instantly locate your location and plan waypoints, etc.

But I still love using maps, they are fun and challenging.

P.S. And yes, a bigger pack is most deffinately needed for longer stays. But that one you have is great for day trips and maybe a single over-nighter.
