Since chez told us exactly what it weighed in the original post, it would appear that you were saying the fish weighed 8 but not more than 9 lbs.....when he told us 9.72......

You know, I was so stoked about the picture I didn't read the post thoroughly. Thanks for pointing that out. Let's not split hairs though.
The website fish weight calculator is kinda cool wasn't it?

I only occasionally weigh my fish, but this thing was so thick for 29", I just had to know. Weighed it twice and took an average...two weights were 9.76 and 9.76

Here we go...I looked at some stuff and found a 29" summer I caught this year that I happened to weigh and logged it at 8.10 lbs.

Yep, very useful tool, another one to keep in your bag of tricks, Is steelhead usually have a dimention ratio that is VERY CLOSE to 1 to 2.....girth being half of length. This of cousre isn't going to be exact and won't work on every fish....but it is a good rule of thumb if you can get one measurement for a close guess at weight,so you don't have to handler the fish as much.
