Fall nooks

let the good times roll

whats you favorite way to fish for nook? good egg cures?

Thjats good news mike. above or below 101. Im heading that way saturday to crab and fish below 101 but ame to head up river. got 2 different herring brines with swimmers right now and defrosting some crab bait. been working on the boat and blowing dust off the gear.

gosh I should go back to fishing the Umpqua, fishing on the Coos and the Rogue seems to bring out the worst

Andy,
If there is a smaller tide exchange, I would get out as close to the jaws as you dare on low slack and begin mooching. As the tides begins to push slowly troll with it up to Coast guard station and then turn around and go out as far as you can and do it over until high slack....get the heck out of there on the outgoing tide. your boat just shouldn't be out there when tide tide is going out...but I'm sure you know that:cool:

I also suggest you run herring on one rod and sardine on the other.....give em a choice....

Never mooched before but its like you read my mind. Heading out and dropping pots before low slack and the getting as close to big pond as I dare and fishing until after high slack and pulling up pots. Hoping the sea is calm enough to do a few brodies around the channel marker just outside the jaws just to say I did it.

Haha... small boat ocean testing... ive been there out of Gold Beach in a 14' riveted boat... it was fun for a bit.

I have a buddy who grew up fishing out of the Columbia in a wooden 12lber footer with a 6 horse. Always trust to get me to go out over the bar.

Wish me luck 3 of us are leaving to the fish incoming tide on the slaw and drop some pots before low slack until after high slack. wanting to do a loop or 2 around the buoy marker for the channel out in the big pond so if you dont hear a report you guys should turn on the news. lol

Well, good luck! Watch the tides and winds carefully! My son had our 16 ft. Jon boat almost to the tips of the Coos jetties the other day! The crabbing should be good! Coos bay has been easy pickens' lately!

Also....hearing confirmed reports from people I know that are hooking salmon and steelhead on the main Umpqua this week while pulling plugs! The river is way too warm with this hot spell, but....the fish are there! :clap: The next good cool spell and it's on!!! :dance:

Yesterday on the lower Umpqua we had a dream day. 34#, 26# (mine), and 22#, along with 34 BIG crab in 4 traps. Plug cut and no flashers on the incoming tide. Next up, archery hunting and fly fishing.

That is the report. It includes what, when, where, and how. The why is self explanatory. What else is there to report?:think::D

well obv it is "A" report. But we are waitin on thuggins report.

Yeah we dropped pots right at low slack slightly incoming. fished againdst the tide trolling the south jetty and right away with gear in for less than 5 minutes i had one on. after we reeeled in the other 2 rods and got he net ready it came unbuttoned. never seen it but felt to be in the 10 - 20 lb range. trollend along the south jetty a bit more going both ways and decided to cross the bar. went out about 100 yards at max and turned around. in a 12"er with 3 guys those swells seemed preety rough. ended up by cusham and then back to the jeties and fished some more then pulled pots and bounce. someone pulled a pot becfause it was moved and had 1 crab when the others were loaded. ended up with with 5 keepers. 3 good sized. 2.5X my money when i left the casino and drove home with all the sunday drivers.

Atleast you got into one and got to fight it for a few. How many other boats did u see
