Fall chinook fishing

Hey duck,

Your drifter will be fine there.

Troll down river to "the corner" or even to "big bend" (you'll go under the 101 bridge) and troll back up. Power boats will usually run back and only troll with the tide, but you can fish it both ways. Keep doing it and you will get fish eventually. Green label is fine, though I prefer blues. Use a triangle fish flash in any color as long as it's green.

You can do a google map to see how long it'll take to get there. I've seen lots of drifters in that section. Another option is putting in at winchester bay- this is closer to the ocean. I've seen a couple of db's trolling along the jetty, but I think it's kind of dangerous on an outgoing tide...

Good luck,

Marco, nice to hear you at least had a nice trip. I plan on doing my first one on Monday, but I really could use some advice. How will a 17' drift boat fair? Couldn't find any blue label but have green. Best place to put in? How long does it take to get there? Suggested boat launch?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks marko. I got a couple of blues and greens brining. I think I'll even put little chartruce on a few just to mix things up a bit. High tide is about 7:30 so even if there are no fish weather should be nice and it's always great just to get out and relax.

I am depressed, I was really hoping to see some Chinook fish porn from the Umpqua by now....

Well just take a look at Rick Howard's face book page and he seems to think the fish are in. Having no troubles landing many every day

Nice vids on his page, but that dog would drive me bonkers! Glad they are coming in there and hope Rick would post on OFF.

Best,

There are plenty of fish in the river-----just will not bite----at least for me---some people are picking up a few. I did go out to the ocean and limited ( 3 of us with 6 fish) in about 3 -4 hours on thursday. Caught one fish yesterday but the wind and waves made me feel uncomfortable so came in. Today only fished about an hour or two and ZERO. Came in after trolling with my 90 HP Honda and the beep goes off telling me my batteries are very low---so stupid me I cut the engine!!!!!
Luckily had enough juice to start the kicker and came in. Now these batteries are heavy duty and bought them 2 years ago. Could my engine not be charging them ? The kicker eventually charged them to restart my 90 HP engine. Maybe when just trolling with the big motor it does not charge???? I am not going back out in the ocean until I better understand this. looks like fairly mellow weather conditions coming this week, Winchester Bay is looking good to me...

We fished inside the jaws on Saturday until the CG opened the bar. Marked a few fish but no hits. Didn't see any fish caught until we were in the ocean and it was still pretty grim. Lots of fish on the screen but little action.

Not sure what to tell you on the battery situation. I would recommend having it checked at a dealer. Not worth getting stranded.

Went last sunday in the ocean. went 3 for 6. All in the 12-15 pound range. Had two others to the boat that might have been a little bigger, dang barbless hooks. We were fishing in close, lots of bait, whole herring, no bling off downrigger 30-40 feet down. Also got 24 crabs, most didn't have to measure! Heading out tomorrow, and will be there saturday also.
