Echo Carbon..

I have 2... 9' 5wt, 7'6" 3wt; I love them both. I over lined the 5wt and it helps tame the wind on the deschutes.

Solid! I think you may have just tip the scale to the buy side RJ. It's like you were reading my mind on setup and use of this 5wt.

hey der eggs...I held and casted an Echo today..........hehe

Damn you! But yours will still be nicer than mine when/if I get it!

Additionally; I use a nymph taper fly line. In my opinion I can tell a big difference in the wind with a nymph taper vs a dry fly or presentation taper fly line.

I own a 4wt and really like it. Very smooth casting, imo.

Additionally, i own 4 Echo rods. I think they are great rods.

On a funnier note, you shouldn't have much issue with the wind as you are full of hot air!

That is the great thing about Echo rods. They are not expensive and are still a great rod.

I Echo what van says about Echo. You can get a great rod for $99. And Randy - if you're still on a quest for a long 3 weight - check out the Echo Shadow PE line of rods. They have both 10' and 10'6" 3 weights and an 11' 4 weight. The Shadow rods actually are, in my limited casting/wiggling of them, meant for the line they are marked for. The 3 weight isn't a down-rated 4, and the 4 isn't a down rated 5 or 6. Nice actions to them.

I *think* Don at River City Fly had still some in stock the last time I was in there. He didn't have them on the display racks, but they were in their tubes in the tubs o' rods on the floor by the racks. Cabela's in both Lacey and Springfield had them in stock when I was there also. The only thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger on one of the Shadow rods is the pricetag - $329 a pop. But they are one of the few long long rods I've seen that really do seem to be meant for the line rating they're given, unlike the G. Loomis, Cabela's, or the Sage ESN that I've tried.

Wish I could come up with excuse on to need another echo to be honest. They are just great rods. Go stop by their warehouse in Vancouver and meet Tim sometime...he is a great guy (and fellow carp addict for the record). I have the sr switch and an echo 2 saltwater six weight. They quit making the echo 2 but I have to say it is probably my favorite rod to cast. I prefer that rod to my g loomis native run or any sage I own...really fun rod. I kick myself frequently for not buying that echo 2 in a 7 or 8 wt...I just can't use a 6 for what I do very often.

This thread makes me want another echo!

Who needs an excuse to get more fishing gear? ;) The Ion 10' 6 weight is a pretty stout rod - I'd bet you could carp with it. Watched a Trout TV episode a couple weeks back - they were using the 10' 6 weight Ion up on the Kenai and getting the big bows, dollies, and sockeyes on them without any problems. I do bleev you mentioned that a long rod is helpful for your style of carping, no? (see, I'm trying to build up your excuse for you)

or you could take up trouting again, and become a euro-nymph specialist and have a reason to buy an Echo Shadow.

6 wts and carp don't mix well! I did fish my echo out on sauvie the other day...can get away with it out here.

I am curious to try the edge...I would go cast it but that would lead to a problem.
