Brown/brook trout

The Brown population Harriet is non existent. I'm not sure when you last fished at this lake. I've been fishing here for 19 years, and the last brown I have caught (or heard of being caught) was fall of 2021.

For Browns, I recommend the upper deshutes, near downtown bend. Specifically Sawyer Park. I have pulled several 20 inch + Wild Browns out of that stretch of river. Well worth the drive if from the Portland Metro.
Well that’s just some bad info - Harriet is full of browns, I catch them on every visit. You probably need to change up your technique.

It's been several years, since I've been to Lake Harriet. It's a bummer to learn that the browns are now non-existent.

Any size to them?

Absolutely, yes. I had one eat a 16-inch rainbow off my line in a single mouthful last spring. You’d need a nine weight and musky flies to target them, but there are state record fish in that lake. I’ve seen them with my own eyes.

It can be hard to find browns midsummer, when the lake has been stocked a ton and the wild fish are losing races to your offering. They also don’t tend to occupy the same parts of the lake as the stocked fish. And of course, they don’t really eat dough bait. When the lake gets loud and crowded, the biggest browns retreat either to the deep water at the dam, or into the pipe system that connects Harriet and Frog Lake Reservoir.

Having said that, the overall population of browns has increased significantly over the past four years since the 2020 riverside fire closures. I don’t know if the poster above is just trying to keep people away from his favorite lake or just plain wrong, but brown trout are thriving there.

I have to agree with Oldshifty. I can't imagine how a Healthy Brown population could go “south” there. A note for Uintasngler: Theres an extensive rebuilt dock system at several points. And a Great cement launching dock for watercraft. Lots if wildlife besides fish!😁

Didn't know about those improvements. It's been at least a few years, since I was up there. Way cool!
