Well instead of spending my birthday right today, I had to be stuck at work. Luckily I was able to celebrate early on Monday, and hit the South Umpqua with guide Charlie "Steelhead" Brown.

I couldn't have asked for much better of a day. Great company, chrome, and pound downs make for a great present.

As always be sure to watch in HD.

Jeff started the day off with this 31 inch buck in the second hole.


I followed it up with this chrome hen in the very next hole after having a reel screaming take down that didn't stick.

We ended the day going 2-4, but really the fish were just the icing on the cake.

Next time. This was my first time with the new camera. I captured it all at 30 fps which doesn't produce very good slow motion. I'll be sure to up that to 60 next time.

We saw about 4 other fish caught that day by the side drifters, and only one was wild. It seemed like a fresh batch of hatchery fish had moved in that morning with the slight rise in the river the night before.
