Best day ever on the Big Elk Creek

Wow.. just wow. I can't believe someone would post this local on the internet. A very small river with a very small run. Lots of illegal activities going on there. Now this spot will be over run with report chasers. First place I ever caught a steelhead. Sad I don't feel like ever going back now. Nice job. Feel proud of yourself. Hope the bragging was worth it.

Maybe you should stop and let them know how you feel. I'm glad to hear you won't fish there anymore.
I didn't even imply that I wouldnt be back to fish (and clean up) this river. And you are spot on bro,I will definitely let them know how I "feel" if I see 'em trashing the place,or any other of our waters.I am looking forward to it.

Calm down, dude. No reason to get your knickers in a knot. Maybe we need to put this spot on the clean up list. Jumping on a member your first post is not a good start.

I have mixed feelings about giving up spots on the internet. It's not like he gave up a specific hole. I mean, if I said that I caught 15 steelies on Lake cr, all that really says is that the fish are there. Big whoopy, you guys already knew that didn't you? Now, I don't want to sound like a hypocrite because I'm all about keeping my bass holes a secret. I guess to me it depends on the water body. Anyhow, sounds like an epic day of fishing to me. Some fish porn would've been cool though.

Yep, what he said. Especially the porn part.

Good deal! I am glad to hear that there are other people who are comfortable speaking up when they see shenanagins on the river. My misunderstanding of your future fishing adventures at this location.
Fish On!

The reason I joined was to try and do something about posts like this. I can bet money you've never even been to this river. I'm not trying to be rude, but this post makes many people very upset, none of them being members of this forum. You should see the snagging going down there in the fall, even though it's closed.

you can do something about that snagging, call osp,the poachers hotline..video tape them snagging and get their license plate number for solid proof and they will get arrested..

Last I checked the Big Elk wasn't a secret..Its also no secret that the run has started and all the rivers (and creeks) have fish...

Haven't fished it in years and don't plan to start either..;)

Sounds like this post didn't do any more damage than what has been going on there already....I would go clean it up and not hesitate to say something to the jerks doing it. I, personally, have never been there. Got better places to be.

No one is going to "stop" internet reports. Getting on here to "stop" these posts from happening will only make you feel disappointed. Best thing you and your local friends can do is be a presence on that little tiny itty bitty piece of water.
I don't fish there but have been told NUMEROUS times by the creel checker on the Santiam to go fish the winters on BEC - dude always talked about the tons of fish in there... Place is hardly a secret.

you have no control over what other people post, its NOT your job to be the internet police.I have never fished that river but i can guarantee you it is no different and has no different problems then any other river.snagging goes on everywhere not just your river.

There are better ways to protect "your" river other then jumping on a fishing forum complaining about other people.

JD15 was well within his rights, to post what he did on here. So, like Raincatcher mentioned, they way you made your first post on here...does not leave a very positive imprint. Sounded pretty hateful to me, which is unnecessary.

The BEC is already over run by thrasers and trashers. And you even admitted that it's already common knowledge, that there are snagger's there in the OFF season. That made your post even more pointless. One more post about the good fishing, didn't hurt a thing. Have you gone out to the stream to chase away any illegal fisherpeeps?

Having said that...

I'm sure that we'd all welcome any positive contributions you may have. Hopefully, they all won't sound like your first post.

I know a guy who grew up in Burnt Woods and he pulls tons of steelhead out of Big Elk Creek. That fish in my avatar actually came out of the Big Elk.

Good for you buddy. And don't let anyone's comments keep you from posting on here!
