You may be a flosser if?

- You yell "its in the mouth" as soon as you hook a fish.

- You have to tell everyone on the forums that it cut good.

- You then proceed to show a picture of Chinook that looks like a lamb chop.

- You use 20lb Maxima Ultragreen year round for steelhead.

- To land a fish you just walk backwards and drag the fish on to the bank (Thanks Maxima).

- You think you need a 10 foot leader or longer to drift fish.

- You walk your fish down the bank to land it away from everyone else.

- You use a yellow rod.

- You show everyone on the bank what color corky you are using.

- You set the hook at the end of every drift.

- You also set the hook three other times during the drift.

- You set the hook at the end of every drift when float fishing.

- You yell out "line bump" just before you slam the hook home.

- You hook 15 steelhead in a day and only land one.

- You stop fishing after the sun comes up (Once the steelhead can see your line).

- You tell everyone how many hatchery tags you filled.

- You can straiten out a 1/0 hook.

- You only use 1/0 hooks.

- You think hooking them in the tail is just an accident.

- When you hear the word Dexter you get excited.

This is all in good fun. I may think of more but for now this list looks pretty good! If you know any let us know.

Speaking of good fun...ya know Foxworthy started that, "You might be a redneck..." because he is a bit of one....heheheheh ;)

He,he,he.....That about sums it up!!!

Love the guys that announce that it's right in the mouth after the fish jumps continuosly at uncontrollable angles multiple times, takes them 20 minutes to land a 15 lb. salmon, then they go unhook it over near the bushes with thier bodies between them and the river so know one can see what going on!

Haha Yup that about sums it all up!

If you have photo shoot with a snagged fish.

Lol! All true.

I'm new in this, just want to ask some questions and make it clear for myself.
First of all, if steelhead bites troutbeads or yarn balls, I can't see why it doesn't bite a corky (with or without yarn). So steelhead may bite a corky as it bites a yarn ball.
Second, is that all about leader length? My understanding is if you have long leaders (say 9 foot), you are flossing no matter what's on the hook. So even if you're using a yarn ball and you have a long leader you are flossing. Is that true?
And third, what is the length? Let's say in a clear river this time of year. What leader length is considered flossing?

As I said, I'm new and what to know more. I hope I didn't cause any misunderstanding.

Don't knock it until you master flossing carp!

You can get a steelhead to bite a corky and 9 foot leader but the chances that you would catch very many that way are pretty low so those of us who want to hook a lot of fish in a year choose other ways. :D We saw a guy on the McKenzie who hooked 4 steelhead in one spot. This was a very slow day when NO ONE was catching steelhead. We got skunked and everyone else we saw did too. He came over to us and showed us what he was using bless his heart. It was a silver corky type lure with one little reflective wing. He was not flossing and for whatever reason that's what they wanted. Of course its something that's not produced anymore. So weird things happen but for the most part the things listed above are what you would see in a great combat spot!

Thanks for your response S_S. So if someone has a yarn ball on with 9 foot leader, is that flossing? What leader length you call flossing (in clear water)?
I just want to stay out of this whole flossing thing. And what leader length do you recommend for clear water for bottom drifting yarn balls?

_M

There's no reason to have one any longer than 3 feet i've found, and in the winters maybe even half that. And yeah, anyone with a 9 ft. leader is flossing. Like SS said, its hard to hook em with a leader that long because the weight needs to catch up with the bite, so they'd spit it more often than not. So if you are trying to fish them correctly you need a shorter leader. There are tons of flossing threads in here  and tons of info, check em out.

I think 3 foot leader is plenty I never go longer. 3 & 4 use to be the most people would go.

Classic!!! That's awesome!

Dude probably was fishing the only stretch in the run that held fish or at least fish that were willing to bite! Steelheading can be a game of inches! It probably wasn't his corky or the leader length....he was most likely fishing the exact spot they wanted to be in. He was lucky to get 4 biters with a leader that long though!

We were fishing the same water he was. We could see plenty of steelhead throughout the hole. I don't want to believe it was the corky, but I don't have any other explanations:)

I saw a dude walk into our hole and hook 5 in about an hour and limited with his 3 fish just as fast up at Leaburg earlier this year. It was amazing, he just spotted the fish and hooked them like it was nothing. no one else hooked anything. Wonder if it was the same dude, he was almost swinging the little lure thingy and he got close enough i could see it and it looked silver and had a little wing like SS said. He didn't look like he was flossing at all, this dude just had serious skills, very humbling experience.

Your girlfriend has to pile up your leader on the ground next to you before you cast.

I've been seeing a lot more mentions of the "one-winged spin n' glo" the stalkers mentioned. I hear it gets some good results. And for only $.89, it's worth a shot to clip the wing and try it out (since they're not sold that way). I have noticed a lot more hits on the reflective wings than white or black.

And hey man! I have a yellow rod!! But the only thing I floss is my teeth ;)
