Congrats on your first fish!!!
Remember stocker trout are meant to be kept. And in this state warm water fish are not helped out by the state by stocking. So they're all naturally spawned in the wild. So catch and release is best especially if you want to come back and catch more and bigger fish. Just an FYI! Good job and tight lines! I see many more and big fish in your future!

Really? That's why I can't catch any Trout in this stocked pond. Everyone keeps em! lol. But I definitely put this little bugger back right after I took the picture. Here's what I caught him on, I've had pretty good luck with this lure. I've got more strikes on it than any of my other lures and I had a 2nd fish on with this lure but lost it.
Its a 50mm 4g Grasshopper. It dives about 12 inches.

Bass will hit many types of lures. It's part of the fun of fishing for them. They're very aggressive.
When the fishing gets tough for bass, try using 5" senko type worms. They love them!

Ya, I've heard someone mention Senko's before. Thank you for the tip. Now I just need to get me some. I'm fishing for Trout this weekend tho, going to Trillium Lake for the day on Saturday.

You can't really tell but from the edge of my hand to the tip of his tail (the part that's hanging off) is about 5 inches. Here is a pic of the fish in my net.
I didn't measure him with my tape. I wanted to get it back in the water. I'll take better pics in the future. Like hangin from the mouth vertical like most pics are, maybe even with a tape measure next to it in the pic.

Good job on the bass, that is a nice fat looking fish! Especially good for you to be concerned on getting it back into the water quickly.
