Looks like the steelhead fishing has come to a screeching halt on the Mac and I still haven't got a fish, anyone want to buy my tags from me lol j/k.I guess I will keep trying till I know all the steelies are gone.Gotta get some ink on my tag at some point but its coming to the point where I just can't catch a break....Oh well thats fishing but this is getting rediculous in all seriousness.Everybody makes it look so easy.I might as well just leave the forum so I don't have to see everyone elses fish :(

we make it look easy because we have spent many years learning but believe me its not easy and I work for every fish I get,Not saying your not working for it but if your fishing around fish then I would wager you have had bites its just knowing the difference from river and fish.If your drift fishing that is.If not and I was you start throwing spinners like crazy all up and down the river and you will hit a aggesive fish.Look at all the fish being taken by spinners from rippen lips and bran man. They do work just calm down and fish and things will happen for you.

Bgunder----

Don't give up yet man, july-augest is usually pretty slow. I have a feeling it will pick up a little but in the beggining of augest.

It's been a little over month and i have not touched a steelie but have been getting bit and have been fishing over them.
If you are where the fish are, you are doing it right by being there, it's just a matter of getting finicy fish to bite.

DTkey is right on, steelhead are getting takin by spinners everywhere now. Yes it's slow but we just gotta work a little harder.

The people who are catching are putting 100% effort into their trips every outing and fishing at least 4-6 hours a trip.
Keep at it and don't give up man, it's part of the "steelheading" game. Switch up your offerings multiple times if they are not hitting one offering. Remember this... If it's really slow up high, fish down low. If it's slow down low, fish in the middle, and if it's all dead... just keep fishing and enjoy everything around you. even if u catch fish or not thats why it's called fishing.

And OFF would hate to see you leave.

I use to be in the same boat never thought I was ever going to catch one , finally it happen twice in one week, now I have tons of confidence. watch and learn, stay at it. One thing I think that help me was a rod I could feel something on after you get that feel of a bite or head shake it will stick in your mind forever. I sometimes just hang around people who make it look easy watch them fish and not even make a cast. See how they are rigging up, it might be as simple as either too much weight or not enough. Weather conditions effect the bite, one person I know couldn't keep them off the hook a couple days later a front moved in and the bite was off.

like dtikey said it takes years to learn. find a spot to fish and spend hours doing the same thing over and over until you know every rock in that section.

good luck and hang in there.

And once you figure that out, it becomes easier in just about any hole. Keep at it man, would hate to see another steelheader quit because they arent getting any action.

There is plenty of steelheaders that catch on a regular bases that havent touched a fish this year, so it's not just you Bgunder.

In low/clear water...also think (and use) lighter leaders and smaller OFFerings.

August was my best month last year for steel. I was picking up 1 to 2 fish every weekend. Actually, I can't wait for the salmon to die off and the hunters to move on to chassin fur... takes a lot of the people and pressure off the water.

Thabks for your input guys sorry about my whining I was just looking at everybody's pics of their fish and I really don't want my tags to go to waste so I was just frustrated.Well wish me luck I will be up at there tomorrow morning 4:30 or earlier and then again on monday after work so hopefully my luck will change or I will just start fishing better or something.

Can you guys suggest good spinners that you use. I have been drift fishing with my daughter from the bank. But always looking for other productive methods to use.

Go to the thread do you love using bluefoxes by nwkiller and that thread talks about some awsome spinners out thier on the market called k n d spinners.Plus you always have old trusty blue foxes in #3 and #4 which I like bronze and gold for the Mckenzie steelhead and blue or green steelies as well.So many options out thier its hard to say use this one because its just a matter of pissing the fish off so he smacks it.

Sounds good. Thanks! I guess Ill be hitting the tackle shop tomarrow. ;)

Yeah I agree it has been kinda hit and miss out there the last week or two. I usually see the majority of the peeps going home empty handed. I myself got skunked 3 trips out in a row fishing 4 hours each time. That's kind of strange thing to happen to me during this time of year. I usually pick up at least one. But hey that's fishing. I thinking it is starting to pick back up though :D trap is consistently full amd they are recycling consistent as well so that's a good sign. As for hardware huckin, I agree that the KND "sprocket spinners" look dead sexy! However, I believe his website is still being worked on so I think you have to order them through their Facebook page? Not too sure on that one. It is a small personal owned business I think as well so helping support somewhat local businesses (they are stationed out of Washington I think) is always a plus. Other than that I really like blue fox. (they are similar to knd's) I personally ALWAYS clip off the treble and put a siwash on. I think it helps with a deeper hookset, and helps prevent less snags and easier to get back when you do snag up....

Hey man I haven't touched a steelhead since march, I'm going through withdrawals. Can I ask what kind of rod you are using? When drift fishing it really pays to spend as much money as you can for a sensitive rod. Other then that watch your line travel through the water, sometimes if a steelhead picks up your bait you won't feel it, but you can see your line stops. Other times you will just be drifting through the slot and you will feel a bump or just something different that wasn't there before. Then again once in awhile they just hammer it and there is no mistake whats going on.

Bobber and bait or bobber and jig is another good way to hit them.

Well, my 2011 tags ended up blank at the end of the year; you aren't the only one. However, I don't think they went to waste, because without all my effort from last year, I wouldn't be catching them this year like I have been. Keep working the water.
