They seem to be larger towards Cali border thats for sure! We fished for a few hours in Gold beach last year and it was quite evident that perch there were significantly larger than what we typically catch around Cannon Beach and Seaside.

Less people = less pressure. True of any fishing spot; salt or fresh. I've not been that far south, on the coast. But if it's even remotely as beautiful as Coos Bay / North Bend--it'd be worth the trip (even if you don't do well fishin).
