New guy, here, first post!
I’ve been fly fishing for most of my life, mostly the streams of Montana and Idaho, and have never wet a line in Or.
This year my wife and I are dragging our camp trailer to Netarts on the coast (she needs to see the beach), and then spending 10 days cruising back east, then to the 97, and then north to where HWY 97 meets the Columbia in Biggs.
From my research, there seems to be endless camping and fishing opportunities. I’m looking for travel destination/fly fishing suggestions. I’d love to travel a day and fish for a day, travel and fish. Maybe stay 2 days, or even 3 if there are opportunities in driving distance. Here’s some more data:
Thank you for any suggestions!

- Most of my fishing has been on relatively smaller/medium streams, mostly isolated, trout only. My heaviest rod is a 6wt. I’ve never fished for Steelies.
- Wading small streams is my love, but I enjoy drifting in my pontoon in larger waters (Bitterroot, Clark Fork, Yakima sized).
- I’d rather catch a few 10-15” trout on dries than catch more larger fish plunking nymphs, but I’m happy to do what it takes. I don’t mind small fish if I’m alone on the stream.
- We are traveling middle to end of August (worst time?). We’re 60 and will plug in our RV when camping (if you call it that).
Thank you for any suggestions!
