anywhere along either fork of the Santiam should be good for both. A bit early for Steelhead though.

The rest area south of Salem has some decent bank fishing. I live in Mill City, 30 miles East of Salem and have seen steelhead in the Santiam at a park here in town. Good luck!

Still should be some summer run steelhead in the Santiam system.

FYI the season closes, for about 98% of Oregon's streams for trout, at last legal light this Saturday (an hour after sunset). After that you'll want to fish the lakes for trout. Or look for the streams that are open year round.

From ODFW's recreation report:
  • The mainstem Santiam River and the lower North Santiam are seeing a large influx of coho salmon right now. (posted on 10/21/20)
The river is open now but ONLY for hatchery fish; ALL wild fish must be released unharmed. The same is true for Steelhead.

Bait is allowed.

A couple of sections of the river, however, are closed. So read page 47 of the reg book, or online, for those details. And remember that you'll need a salmon/steelhead tag, plus a Columbia River Basen endorsement if you're chasing salmon or steelhead.
