Caught 2 clipped Umpqua fish today....the real ones....not the streamside pocketknife jobs! :D One of them was a 34" buck! Just me and my youngest, I rowed, he held the rod. After banking it most of the winter it felt good to cover some water in the boat....I love side drifting! I swear my youngest is the only person on the Umpqua that would ever let a hatchery winter go free! We prematurely departed a hole that we had 3 hook-ups in a row....went over the rapid with no way to get back up....Dammit! I would have liked to have ran that hole a few more times!

Variable....depended on the float. We leap frogged for a bit with one other boat, mostly we had lot's of water to ourselve's, at the take out and launch there were other rigs....I have no idea where they were? Some of the other launch areas we was on the way home looked crowded!!!

Geez! That one in the 4th photo down looks like a brute!

Most years the Klamath basin rivers start fishing better towards early june than around the opener. a lot of the time the snowmelt runoff starts about the end of April and a lot of the streams are running high! This year tough....who knows? Snowpack is only about 40% of normal for southern Oregon right now. The Sycan river might fish pretty well below the Sycan marsh in early may. I bet the Williamson around Chiloquin will fish well about mid-June. Keep on me as your trip gets closer and I will have some tips for you if you like....my contacts down there are endless! ;)

As far as Steelhead go....I haven't gone on a fishless trip since I caught my 1st summer run of the year on the 4th of July. I haven't gone a lot, but when I have gone it has been consistant and productive!
