Things are starting to pick up on the Slaw. I went 2/3 this weekend dragging chartreuse brined green labels. Finally got the chinook skunk gone.
The first one came in front of the CG station about 10:30am on Saturday. Marked one fish on the screen in the deep hole and 10 seconds later my rod buried.
Quite the epic fight. There were about a dozen crab pots in there and the fish was going right through them. I powered up the motor and was able to guide it out into the open water. A couple of long and deep runs and it was in the boat. 20# hen full of eggs.
That afternoon I lost a BIG one under the 101 bridge. I was tolling right under it when he hammered it. We had a strong incoming tide and it was everything we could do the keep the boat away from the bridge and work him. Had him to the boat twice but I wasn't able to net him and the wife was running the boat. Finally lost him.
Yesterday morning I picked up the 14# upstream of the barge fishing the outgoing at over 3mph. Seemed way too fast. I was messing with another rod when my sucked all the way to the water. I thought I was snagged until I got it out of the rod holder.
It was a great weekend after finally being able to catch fish on herring.
Thanks everyone for all of your advice and encouragement!!!!
