i know iv been off for a whial got a new job and been crazy busy but its that time of the year to start focusing on steel rather then salmon. when do they start showing up on the slaw? iv looked into posts and seen a few for the middle of dec. but was wondering if they are around before that? iv got steel head on a couple rivers a little ways north that i grew up on in early dec. but just trying to see what the run dose down here.

I usually don't start checking it out til around mid January. December too dead slow for me. Its a slightly later run than others. however, you never know with those big rains we just had. could have very well forced those first early fish up in there somewhere.... it was a zoo out there last year, assuming the same this year too. if you head out there sometime soon, give us a report

Bored out of my mind this last Friday morning, I threw on my cold weather gear and rode the Harley over that way. River was dropping and no surprise the trap was empty. I'll start fishin it during our time off for X mas down low.

sounds good. my first steel last year was xmas morning whial every one was sleeping in me and my little bro hit the river and got 4 nice bright ones but let them all go. hope this year is as productive.

I got my first last winter Thanksgiving weekend. Got my second the following weekend. Both were nates, first was a small buck, next was a really nice hen probably just north of 15lbs.

I've heard some steelies were already caught on the slaw about a week ago. Bycatch while chinook fishing. Won't start in with the big push for a while yet tho.
