As I mentioned in my last post yesterday that I hooked my first 2 steel head ever yesterday and then lost them both.
Here goes today , we hit the water today by 6am fished it until about noon , I touched absolutely nothing well I might of had a split second hook and headshake then GONE. Dan my buddy/ mentor landed one and my 2 other fishing buddies lost I think one each. We then made plans to hit the water again at 4pm today. we all meet down there again ( right below wiley cr.) I tie on a corkie and yarn and within the first few minutes hooked into something rather large. it began taking me down river , it rolled a few times Big Gold flashes , my buddies say it was a slamon. I fought this pig for several minutes every one got out of the river for me , it then went and hid behind a big rock and I couldnt move it , in the process it snagged my weight in the rock , I just put my pole flat and pulled , the weight came off and I retrieved all my gear *** Minus one Salmon ***.
Now to the good part , so up above us a bit pretty much standing where wiley CR runs in was a guy that was there before us , we watched him hook up 4 times and land only one. Then at about 6pm or so he packed up all his gear and left the river , I let Dan know I was going to go up there in his little honey hole. I walked right up there and several casts later FISH ON !!!! Here again I find myself in another fight , with everyone retreating the water for me to land this fish and wouldnt you know it .. MY FIRST STEELHEAD EVER !!!
All in all I think what made it even better , I was down there with great friends that are very knowledgeable and more than willing to show me the ropes or little iggies on what colors they heard were working etc.. And then after I land this guy , all 3 guys I was down there with gave me the Congratulations on your first steelhead , I think they were as excited for me as I was for me.
So this is to you Guys Thanks Dan , Mark and Dustin.
