im stuck on my next salmon rod im looking at the okuma sst or a right & mcgill i want something in 9'6- 10' med/ med heavy any one have a say on what one is worth buying

thanks

I have the Wright Mcgill...10 foot,15-30 Alaskan Medium Drifter.....I like it and would buy another...Don't know about the SST..,.

I just got a shimano claurus rod, havent used it yet but it feels good!

Just a tip... The Okuma SST rods are excellent rods for salmon/steelhead but they seam to be on the lighter and more briddle side.

The Tips love to break off. But if you can manage to take good care of the rod im sure it will last. I just don't like the feel of the bigger okuma SST rods, yes i like a light action rod, but they seem too light... and the backbone on the Okuma SST is something to consider and think about...

I keep backing my self away from the Bigger Okuma SST rods, i have been looking at other rods.

MaKE sure you check out the shimano claurus IM-8 rods, also check out the Berkley IM-8 rods i think they are...

I have a lamiglas SI which is there top of the line model , I first bought the lami xmg 50 but it had a minor reel seat issue so I called lamiglas and they upgraded me the SI rod as a replacement for a very small fee. the xmg was on sale at cabelas( closeout) and even on sale it was a stretch for me to buy. my understanding is the SI is a 500 dollar rod :dance::dance: Lamiglas customer serice is top notch in my opinion. Love the feel of the SI

I have a lamiglas 9'2" and 9'6" xmg50 great rod but gotta baby it cuz they tend to break easily if u have a bad batch...lol...oh, and the si is $400 at dicks if your interested. Thinking bout upgrading to the si but they want toooo much for the upgrade...$200 per pole...sheesh

yah i know about the tips on okuma rods iv ownd a few and really like them but im looking into a heavier rod for pulling plugs/herring and also using it out on the salt iv never used the wright and mcgill rods but at the same price as the sst im stuck on my decision... and as much as i want a lami. rod im not dumping 3-500 bucks on a rod if i fished like i did up in wa. i probably would but not living in eugene and hardly ever getting out on water
