Regs state 5 trout per day at Alton Baker

So most of you are correct. Thanks for questioning me so I could find out for certain. Although it is 2 limits per day for all species as stated on page 8; further along it reads that "Alton Baker limit is 5." Which angers me more about the two guys coming and going throughout the day and each time catching twice as many as they should be.
It is time to stop turning a blind eye to those in violation and time to report them. No wonder others so not catch anything during the week or even by the end of stocking day.
I am so tired of the "rules are made for everyone but me" attitude in this country.
Uh oh, better go...I see someone official and I have four poles in the water right now. Lol. I am kidding!

This is on page 8 of the regs:

"Daily Limit:
Maximum number of fish or shellfish which may be legally caught and reduced to possession in one day. An angler may take daily limits of several types of fish per day."

Maybe you are thinking of possession limits.

Best,

they're pellet heads and the people catching them are usually poor or homeless who cares?? i mean yeah breaking the law aint right but its pellet heads in downtown, not worth the hassel that it will cause among the locals there

That "pellet head" attitude will get you a big fine at Detroit Lake, Trillium or just about anywhere else. Why should Alton Baker be any different? I'm not rich and I quit when I get my fifth fish. Money is not the issue, it's ethics.

You can catch and keep 1 daily limit. You can have in your possession (on your person) one limit that was caught over previous days and one limit that is caught today. Or if you start the day with 8 fish in your cooler you can only keep two more. Never allowed to kill more than a daily limit's worth of any species per day. Never allowed to have accumulated more than two limits worth of a species in your cooler (per person) on an multi-day trip.

i understand that but calling in and reporting downtown homeless people fishing can cause you trouble. when they are actually eating the fish there shouldnt be a problem, if they are eating them. i do not agree with it and think the should get a ticket so dont get the wrong idea. and it can get you a ticket anywhere but state cops aint going to wasted their time in downtown eugene at this time of year for pellet heads when there is spawning steelhead and salmon and deer and elk and other things that create more revenue then giving a person who can't even pay the ticket a ticket. ive fished down there and had a guy tell me he didn't even have a license. your lucky they are actually fishing and not just doing drugs there

joem, you have some valid points. The authorities probably won't take the time to go down there any time of the year unless it turns violent and I certainly would not want that. Maybe just letting them think they are being turned in will be enough to slow them down...?

joem, you make too much sense! Although most of the people I have seen fishing the canal are not homeless-looking. They are mostly retirees or families.

You're right the staters are overworked this time of year, but maybe word will get out that going over limit is not acceptable for whatever the species you are targeting, based on this post? I hope so. I bet if a local police officer could have a chat with the persons in question, the issue would be cleared up rather quickly. Seems like the ABC is always popping up with these sorts of characters, it's too bad since it's a good and easy option for people to catch fish in the EUG.

ABC fish

ABC fish

You gotta be a real pellet head. Where do you think the original fish in the hatchery came from? Have you ever fished there? The people that fish at ABC are not homeless. Homeless people have no fishing gear fool! By the way I have assisted in getting people busted there, for keeping too many fish. It cost one guy several hundred dollars.

that is under "Possession Limit", which is what you can have in your possession but MUST catch on different days and without going over the daily limit.

if I go camping for 5 days and the kokanee limit at the lake is 25 per day, can I take 125 kokanee home in my cooler? NO, because of the possession limit.

I can catch 25 per day. but I can only have 2 limits in possession, so the most I can take home with me is 50. if I eat some during the camping trip, I can end up catching more than 50, but at any moment in time, I can have no more than 2 limits (50) in my possession...

can I have more than 50 kokanee in my freezer at home? YES. the possession limit applies only in transit to the place of permanent residence.

cheers, roger

Teubie-
Again my friend Its five per day-
There is no where in the state of oregon that I can think of where you can retain more than five trout in a day.

On another note-
I support the right of all to be happy and secure and for the homeless to feel the same. However, There are better, more productive, ways to spend your days trying to better your life then trout fishing for pellet heads at ABC. Homeless or not Obey the laws.

It is additionally illegal, to continue to angle for the same fish--that you have already limited out on.

For what it's worth, the limit for Diamond Lake is 8 per day. Everything else is generally 2 or 5, depending on whether it's a stream or a lake.

I hate poachers with a passion. They're the ones who get entire sections of river closed to fishing, and ruin it for the rest of us that try to play by the rules. I can no longer fish the river I grew up on during salmon or steelhead season due to this. Too much snagging, and no respect for spawning beds.

I've put a lot of effort into making sure I understand the rules and regulations before I go hunting or fishing, and it makes my blood boil to see or hear of others who just take what they want with no regard for the rules, or for others. We're the ones who end up paying for it in the end.

Great info!
I was unaware of the diamond Lake thing but then again I don't ever fish it!

Yes poachers suck!

Not so grasshopper. You can continue to C&R fish for sturgeon after retraining your limit - although this now more of a historical point.
