Question about fishing the rise..

Hey guys, I'm new to the area and was thinking about trying the Necanicum tomorrow. Since there isn't a gauge on this river I'm not really sure what to compare it to yet...or what to expect. Looks like there will be enough water to bring most rivers up a foot at least. Not sure about the Necanicum though.

Will the steelhead be in their typical holding spots, or on the move? I'm mainly a catch and release guy and there's this one little creek I'm dying to check out for an early winter. It should be in good shape. But, at the same time, I'm trying not to overlook the hatchery streams this year because I have a lot of fun on them too..and it's probably best I learn one. Let me know what you think, I'd appreciate it.

the Necanicum will be high and muddy tommorow, I would fish the NF Klaskenine, NF Trask, High up on the wilson.. or maybe big creek.. possibly Gnat... Kilchis or high up on the miami could fish well too-

For Necanicum gauge use the North Fork of the Nehalem gauge, they're going to rise about the same. I fished both this morning. Got in before the rain but as I left it was getting DUMPED on so the levels are gonna rise fast. Most north coastal rivers are gonna see a pretty big increase in height with the storm rolling in. It was rising as I fished....

boy have I had some good days when the river began to color and blow while I was there.. I also gotta VERY wet on those days!

In my limited coastal experiance the kilchis fished well for me when the others were high. However Ive been sucessfull on the wilson in slow deep side pockets and the backs of big holes when the water was about 6.5 feet. good luck

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Good luck to everyone that goes out.
