Protecting gear from saltwater

I'm just getting going on flinging flies off the jetty and in the surf. I don't have a saltwater reel - but then its only a low end Okuma aluminum reel. As I recall the biggest thing you can do is immediately rinse your gear (rod-reel-line-flies) with clean fresh water which should remove/dilute the salt(s).

You guys do anything else before or after a trip to the salty pond ?

Just rinse and repeat.

Annually PM your fishing gear and break it down, clean lube, fish.

Ditto, rinse rinse rinse.

Its not a bad idea to wipe em down with a rag with bit of WD40 after you rinse to. And never soak em just rinse well. its also a good time to oil your moving parts with some reel oil to fight off corrosion.

rinse and spray with remlube...
