Oregon LNG says good bye

hells yeah..

"Warrenton Mayor Mark Kujala told the Daily Astorian that Oregon LNG officials told him the project was being scrapped because backers were no longer willing to put up the money."

This is good news. I think eventually LNG would have lost, I'm glad they through in the towel without that protracted fight. Every time I motor out of the Skipanon to enter the Columbia I go past the location they had intended to locate the plant. They would have filled in 35 acres of wet land, and made the place look like some parts of California with the oil refineries. I'll sleep better knowing that my bed will not be located about a mile from monster LNG tanks, and my access to the river will not be denied while those LNG tanker ships come in and out of port. Thank you City of Warrenton and ODF&W for making this nightmare go away. ODF&W was not mentioned in the article but they played a role in the demise of the project.:thumb:

LNG company...you are the weakest link...GOODBYE!

That's part of the LNG/Coal issue that many people weren't understanding -- those ships are escorted, and private boats can't be within a certain distance (I believe it's 1000'). Would be especially problematic with a coal facility in Vantucky, since that would shut down almost all pleasureboats for much of the day in almost the entire lower Columbia... to heck with that.

We were told that the mouth of the Skipanon would be closed when the ships came in and left. They estimated 260 to 280 ships a year. 500 yard safety zone while in transit 1000' while at the dock. Can't imagine what the place would have looked like in August. I am breathing easier now.

Looks like Oregon LNG is going away!

Best news I've read this year! Oregon LNG attempted to steam roll their river killing project through Astoria and Warrenton without regard to lower Columbia salmon fishers.

Corporate greed at it's finest! (just saying)
