Hey guys I'm going to newport for a week 25-31 and going to be fishing and crabbing. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck out on the jetty on rockfish/lincod. Also if I wanted to fish for some salmon where would I fish in newport area. I don't really see people catching salmon off the jetties so no idea. I will be crabbing from the dock and if things are going slow I will rent a boat and try crabbing in the bay. Any tips or reports on crabs or fish?

You can fish off the south jetty by the "finger" jetties. Scope it at low tide and you will see them. There are multiple species around the rocks. I don't know about salmon nowadays but if you drive up the road to Toledo , see where the boats are. There are some spots to fish from the roadside.

Finger jetties? never heard of it, I usually drive up till the end of the road and walk like 50 feet and fish there, Describe the finger jetty. I catch lincod/rockfish/sea trout/cabezon and greenling using sandshrimp .

Sounds like you are familiar there. I have only fished there twice but did catch a ling cod and two types of rockfish. My buddy has caught surf perch there, too. The finger jetties stick out perpendicular to the south jetty and are exposed at low tide. That's between the bridge and the jaws. There are three of them, I believe.

Okay I got what you mean , I fished there once and it was pretty shallow and I didn't get a single bite except crabs. So I moved to the deeper places, although my uncle fished there a couple times and said he catches black/red rockfish and sometimes small lingcod.

Painted some jigs for rockfish, and also painted a spinner the black dots is in sharpie so I don't know if it will last.

Get some Gulp band plastics-

You will lose that hand painted tackle. Its way to nice for the jetty-

Hit walmart in LC for some cheap jig heads and use Gulp brand Salt Water plastics. That will be the diff between maybe a couple and for sure a few.

Also the Yaquina jetty can be hit or mis- Check Depoy bay for some good rock spots. I like the area behind the condos when you first hit the town headed south.

Most Importantly Be carefull- I've seen sneakers clear the cliffs and depo and wash all my gear to sea- It can happen just like that!

Good Luck-
TM

I used to fish in depoe bay near boiler bay next to the world mark resort and would often catch lingcod and big rockfish even caught a striper once, but last year and this year it's been really quite there and no bites at all , its like all the fish disappeared tried fishing bottom with no luck at all, usually if I would bottom fish I would get a small greenling everytime I cast but not anymore not even baby fish. Weird like all the fish just left. So I don't fish it anymore, sometimes I just drive by and cast like 10 times and leave.
