Newberg area newbie

I am coming up for thanksgiving to visit my brother-in-law and we were planning on getting out and doing some fly fishing. I just got done reading the regulations for the Willamette zone. It is pretty confusing seeing that I am not a resident so I had a few questions.

Looks like targeting trout is out of the question. Are there any species I can target fly fishing this time of year? Where would be the best place to go? I don't consider myself an avid fly fisherman, I go because I enjoy it and I am taking my brother-in-law to teach him some stuff.

Any advice would be great.

You could go for some early winter steelhead-
If you want to go heavy duty- a chinook-
This time of year is mostly salmon and steel up here near the coast-

Do you have a heavier rod?

I have a 6 wt. I realize that can be a bit small for Steelheads and Salmon but I think I can get access to a heavier rod as well. What kinds of flies should I load up on for steelhead?

I have a couple of days up there so I would not be opposed to traveling a ways out.

I'm a gear guy but Ive seen them caught on egg patterns and steelhead streamers-

Im sure if you put a post under the fly fishing sub forum some youll get a bite, a lot of people just read whats posted in a particular sub forum-

Most fishing would be in the NW zone with a few exceptions in the Willamette zone-
