I got a chance to mess around with the new boat today. Its still at the dealer getting outfitted. It still need props and some motor detail work. The electronic are all installed just have to put the compass on. Looks like I'll pick her up next week. Then I'll put the crab davit and rod holders on her. She should be the perfect boat for where I like to salmon and bottom fish.

That's such a sweet boat! What size are the main motors and did you sell the old one?

Jealous...

wow, that is sweet, it must be so hard to wait for it to be ready to rock and roll...

The waiting drives me crazy because my old boat is gone. The only thing in my moorage slip is water. I powered it with twin 150 Yamahas. Safety was my number one concern. That's why I went with the twins. That's also why I had radar installed. When that fog rolls in it's nice to have more than just gps. I'm going to have to learn how to fish around that offshore bracket. The other boat had transom mounted motors. That will be interesting for sure.

Sounds like a solid choice, I love my Yamaha motors! Radar is a sweet addition to your rig as well!

It all sounds perfect as long as you have a heater in the pilot house for those cold and rainy days!

Best,

Beautiful. I can't wait to see the bloody deck pictures next summer!
I too am planning on adding radar.
Kinda spendy but can definitely be a priceless tool when the fog rolls in on the big blue.
Which Lowrance models did you go with?

I say our next gathering should be on Lon's boat...:thumb::)

They had a heater option but it was $3,500. I thought that was kind of spendy, I'm going to add some form of heater because I'm not fishing those warm California waters.;) Actually I remember a few cold rainy days back when I was stationed at Beal AFB near Yuba City.

The radar is their new broadband 4g. It draw a lot less power than the other units. I looked at radar unit for quite a while before making a decision. I went with this modle because of the low power draw and low emissions. It's a safe unit. I used to fish out of Newport and I remember a few of those foggy days. It would seem like you were out there all alone, then the fog would lift and I would be shocked to see all the other boats around. The radar is going to be nice.

For a display head I went with the HDS gen2 10. It has a 10.4 inch display screen and sonar, gps chartplotter, radar and gauge displays. It's going to take me some time to figure it all out, but I'll have all winter to do it. I put a HDS gen2 5 out at the rear steering station. It's the same as the one at the helm just smaller.

For the vhf radio I picked the lowrance link 8. It links to the gps system and when you push the emergency button it send a digital message to the Coast Guard with your lat and lon. Again it going to take me all winter to figure all this new gear out.

Awesome. I put he HDS10 in my new boat in the Spring and I still do not have it all figured out but definitely enough to put it to good use. I absolutely love the screen size.
I too have my VHF radio linked up to it. Don't forget to registed with NMSI,

That is an excellent electronic setup. One of the coolest things about the Lowrance HDS series. It is a plug and play system and everything is easy to add.
If you can afford to, that is.:yikes:
Congrats again. I see a lot of fun there.

Way to go Irishrover!! :thumb: That boat will keep you fishing in comfort and style for a long time. Not to mention turning heads and making lots of folks, like me, absolutely green with envy. Very happy for you and Mrs. Irishrover! Just wondering, do you have any pics of your very first fishing vessel (pontoon, canoe, row boat etc.) ? I'm sure there is a world of difference...

Holy Cadillac batman

wow, that is a lot of electronics, fantastic for safe outings in any conditions, and thanks for supporting those of us in the semiconductor industry that make the stuff inside of all those units...:D

after seeing the pictures, I was going to joke that my old and well used Alumacraft has at least one thing in common with your new starship: the same Lowrance unit, but alas, I only have an HDS gen2 8 ...

sooo stoked to see that bad boy!

Irishrover, you owe me a new keyboard for ruining the last one with a big pile of drool. Man that is a sweet looking ride, congrats.

Holy Somkes again Lon, boat porn!

I second that motion, all in favor say aye!

Raincatcher....the first boats were usually 12' rental row boats at places like Diamond Lake.:) I still remember those trip and smile.

Now this is good news two members who have the Lowrance HDS gen 2 units. Roger and Mike I may be PMing a few questions.:yikes:

Mike thanks for sending that link I'll signup for sure.

No problem. There is a lot of info that can be entered regarding your boat and crew that the CG can use in an emergency situation.

Hope none of us ever need to use it but it is a good piece of insurance when out in the big blue.

Let the blood flow! Nice boat.

Thanks for the motivation, Mike!

I need to update my MMSI to my new home waters and contacts down here. I would hate to have the CG bug my retired neighbor lady back in the EUG if that thing went off down here in Bodega bay.

Best,
