Good luck man! At least you are hooking them up !! I know you are getting into fish today!!
And how right you are! My first limit today!
I hit that same spot, but after about an hour, nothing happening. Saw Ian Premo's boat nearby and saw them make a few runs down a hole below me...they didn't seem to get anything either.
I seriously contemplated packing it in...just wasn't much in the mood to keep fishing in the drizzle. Though it was warm, I spent a hard winter getting soaked and I guess just a bit burnt on the idea. But, I was close to a spot I used to fish last year. Of course I skunked every time, but what the heck...I can't seem to say no
So, I made a quick drive, short hike and there I am. See three boats nearby working their deal, but there's still plenty of water. Fished the first hole for awhile and nothing. Then, above me, one of the boats hooks up. They drift downstream, playing the fish. After they boat it, they take OFF. Hmmmm? Walk up to where they hooked up and I'm below some guys that are swinging some flies in a riffle on the opposite side of the river. They are still a good 50 yards above me, and the river is wide; I can't even cast that far, so plenty of room.
This riffle dumps into some deep chop that looks real good. About 10 casts in, something grabs my spoon. I set the hook and it's a line burner! Shoots downstream and I stumble after it, ducking a few trees. I start working it back and it helps me out a bit by swimming toward me, hugging the near side bank. But, as I get it close, it freaks and burns a bunch of line, heading right back down. Again, I get it back closer, and it does its only aerial display at that point.
By now, it's a bit tired and short while later, beach this:
Tagged the fish. And, to be safe, I cut my lure, tied a knew knot, sharpened the hook. Also, since I had walked a bit downstream, decided to head back up 20 yards to where I started. Oh, and since I was near civilization, texted a photo to my wife.
Four casts later, boom! Another one. This one is an acrobat; several full leaps out of the water. Yee haw! Ended up banking in the same spot as the fist.
Limit by 9:30, gave the fly guys a thumbs up and took OFF...and here I am at home
And here is the killer spoon. $1.90 bargain basement special with the flourescent orange paint colored over with a black sharpie...it looks like a piece of junk, but gets the job done, eh? LOL
