Misclip? What do you think?

Got a couple nooks today on a rarely fished section of the Willamette. The first looked to be misclipped, but there was too much fin there, to be sure. Both were released:D Hmmm, didn't upload the pics chronologically.

I would of done the same thing you did. Too much of a fin to chance it on some ones judgement (officer).

Looks like a regrow. Some of them grow back. You can keep regrows but you better be sure it's not a full fin. I kept one once but only because my guide buddy was with me and he was sure of what it was.

Nice nooks dude! Were you above Oregon city falls and above the Mckenzie? Depending where you were the number of nates can be really small so most likely misclips.

I would have whacked the second one with the adipose stub. Not sure about the first one, but it does look kind of stunted or deformed.

Good luck next time, looks like you got them figured out!

Yes you were def smart in playing it safe and releasing it when you were not sure. But it does look like a re grow. That's a pretty small adipose for a native nook, and doesn't really have the correct shape that their adiposes have.... Even though you didn't have something to bring to the dinner table, at least you still had the thrill of catching some....

I think misclip! Safe is a good play.

Better safe than sorry (with possibly a big fat citation to pay for).

Bottom fish is definitely a misclip, but top one I would guess unclipped(didn't say native)....Adipose fins increase in size as the fish mature sexually...a small fin in May could be the size of your thumb in September....
