Lower Columbia chinook

It was a great day to fish the lower Columbia River. The tides brought more fish in for us waiting fishermen. I landed my bigest salmon ever and what a hoot it was to land this big old buck. A couple of big freighter had just past down in the Hammon area so I headed out to the safety of the green line just outside the channel. Those big freighters tend to stay inside the channel. Once I felt safe I dropped my nose clipped herring down to 33 feet on the line counter. A few moments later and the reel started screaming as this fish peeled off line. I knew this had to be a big fish and since the Columbia is all barb less hook I began to sweat. After a rew more runs and a lot of luck we were able to put this fish into the net and into the boat. My wife had already boated a nice chinook in the 25lbs class. The fish measure out to be 42 inches. No scales around but I'd guess that fish was between 35 to 40lbs.

Trying to get the pictures to upload what a pain.

Hawg!!

What a great brute! Glad you both got decent ones today,

Great job, that thing is huge!

Big and shiny! Very nice!

You have me salivating now. Magnificent fish! It may be crazy crowded, but my wife and I are coming down to fish there on Saturday. Save us a couple!

Niceee one!

Are those Okuma Coldwater reels? If so, do you like them?

Yes they are. I like them a lot. I first thought the line counter was a waste of time but I've come to like it very much. Those reels are rugged and have held up very well. until last year I thought anyting other than a Penn 109/209/or 309 was a complete waste of money. I was dead wrong and really like those Okumas. I have them on a Northriver 9' heavey action rod and it makes a great combonation

Yeah, you know it's a good one when your reel screams. And a clipped fish to boot! I think the reg change is a decent compromise to a shut down. I got my last high finner today.

I thrilled with what they did vs a total shut down. It's only a mile from my slip to bouy 29 and good fishing water. If it was shut down it would either be an ocean run or a run up river above tounge point. If I do catch a non hatchury fish I'll have the fun of the fight then release it and fish some more.I just hope the weather is decent.

Good for you Lonn. Looks like you're having a good time out there.
