The Suislaw is currently at 12 and a half feet and rising, suppossed to hit 15 feet. I guess my new obsession with steelhead fishing will have to be on hold for a while.:( I heard Lake Creek cleans out faster and fishes better when the waters high, i might give it a shot as soon as its fishable. Hopefully there will be some fish left at Whitaker when the river finally drops some, i'm sure they are flyin up right now!

Lake creek would be your best bet. the slaw got blown up but a tun of steelhead fisherpeeps this year! crazy!

Yeah, i heard this year was pretty busy compared to previous years. I am guilty cause this was my first year steelhead fishing although i've been flyfishing the Mac for 15 years or so. Hooked my first steelie this year and was instantly addicted, love the Whitaker creek run! Everyone down there has been super cool and its been a blast.

I personally wouldn't waste my time with whitaker anymore period even if it wasn't blown out. It's pretty late and the fish are getting DARK.... :/

From what I am hearing is some of the Northern coastal systems seem to be doing good before the last rain. I will be trying something like Alsea, Nestucca or Siletz, but then again the Umpqua can be amazing this time of year too.

Yes I heard the siletz is still doing ok but starting to slow down pretty good. Umpqua will be good for another month or so. It's just about waiting for the rivers to shape up again.... There are def still some fish aroumd to catch. I'm probably going to start looking for early summers amd springers in a week or 2..... Good luck out there guys! :)

I fished the Alsea last week before the blow out and my buddy and i hooked 3 but lost them all. Water was a bit high and they were hard to land. Ya know, thats how it goes. The fish were a bit dark anyway, but i'll bet it fished pretty well today.
Cruised by the Slaw today for a short time and it was brown, fast and didn't look very fishable at all. Only a few bankies plunking, and not many fish in Whitaker by the trap. Suppossed to rain a ton tonight so it looks like maybe its time to chill for a while.
