Line recommendations?

I'm brand new to fly fishing but having a blast learning.

I just bought a St. Croix 4wt and a Okuma SLV-45 Fly Reel. My question now is about line.

The Scientific American Mastery Series Trout line looks really great, but it's pricey. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

I got 98 yds of 5WT Cortland 333+ WFF for like $40. It was either that or 57yds of Scientific Angler's for $30. The Cortland has served me well as my first fly line. I don't know too much about fly lines but I know that I like this one so far. :D

Hopefully you find what you are looking for. :)

Take care.

Spydey nailed this one. Cortland lines are my go to line as well. 444 dt is great for nymphing and the 333 weight forward or rocket taper is great for more active casting.

They do tend to get a bit stiff in the cold but I think that applies to all line when fishing at 19- 26 degrees lol. :)

333+ can be found under $30 bucks. good stuff. also look at rio lines around the $50 range

I'd stay with the 444

That's great news! I'm open to any other suggestions of course, but that could save me some dough. Thanks fellas.

If you're on a budget, but still want quality, I usually suggest going one up from the bottom (bottom usually being 333). Check out Rio's mainstream.
