It's been a rough 4 weeks...

No steelhead since 1/13 (though I did catch a coho not too long ago). But finally pulled one out of the Clackamas today. Spotted another from atop a cliff, hanging out in a seam, but when I got down to fish at it, couldn't get it to bite.

No surprise, on a silver spoon that I marked half black for whatever reason...hey, it was killin' 'em in the summer, right, so why not?



Oh, and 2/10/2012 was my very first steelhead to the bank, so this very nearly marks the one year anniversary

The nice thing about this one...my winters so far this season have come in pretty easily. My few hooked so far have mostly done the coho-style death rolls, sometimes wrapping the line around the snout and they soon give up and come in like a log. Not this one!

The spoon start to swing and just kind of stopped...like wrapped on a rock, and I gave the rod a firm, but short pull toward the bank and held there. Still felt mostly like a snag, but I thought I felt some sponginess and wanted to be sure, so I completed the motion and flung the tip all the way back and cranked the reel. Then, it still felt snagged, but kinda weird, no shaking, but I thought I detected some very slight movement...then about a 1/2 second later the line goes ripping down stream...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz goes the drag. Yes!

Finally got the leaps, several runs back out to the current when I dare get it too close...all the good stuff. Arms were getting a workout this time
