Has anyone done this drift this spring? Are you aware of any hazards like log jams, strainers etc.? I am thinking of doing it by kayak and would like to know if there is anything to watch out for. Thanks.

Haven't done it yet this year, was going to this week but alas...things happened. Might do it in a couple weeks when I'm back from the deschutes. Last year it was the easiest stretch of river I've ever floated, and I can't imagine it's changed a whole lot, but, it was a massive flood year and things could have changed.

Yep, pretty straight forward run. Havent jetted up it yet this spring, there are a few places that wood does hang up, always is places to move through. Seems to be enough volume of water to keep things clear. There are people fishing it now, I think that if there were a hazard it would have popped up on a forum somewhere.

I-5.. Where would you put in at?! Help please.

There is a ramp just 100' down stream from the south bound lane, access is through either the north bound or south bound rest area over the main Santiam.

Thanks. I suspected that it is pretty tame but I am also very chicken/cautious when it comes to getting on moving water. There is also a bit of bank access right around there but watch out for the old pilings right by the bridges. They seem to attract gear.

I agree, caution is good. Large volume of water that goes down that drainage.
