How do we get more fishing patrol at ABC?

I wonder just how many people that fish at ABC are REALLY licensed? And just how many fish are these people taking home? I bet many unlicensed and more than their share of Trout. I called the hotline for more license checks at ABC but will it really happen? Especially on stocking days! Maybe you all can help by calling yourself?

Why do I care? Because I am tired of people crowding in during stocking periods, crossing my line, and having flipping parties up and down the pond. Maybe I sound old and grumpy, but we do pay to fish and we pay to catch nice fish. If unlicensed folks are out there and catching more than their limit, it decreases our chances and takes up room. Can also be a reason why the fish disappear so fast at ABC as well?

Just saying......

I know people who have called and nothing became of it. Good luck - the state is broke. They are going to stop stocking lake creek with steelies because they don't have the money to police it anymore.

Don't give up. Keep calling. A daily limit is ONLY FIVE (5) trout. I call anytime that I see any perps place a 5th one on their stringer, and then toss their line back in. At that moment, they are fishing ILLEGALLY! Period.

Keep calling. Eventually the OFFicers will come.

Yes, good advice. I can be a bit cynical because its hard to get things done but we shouldn't stop trying.

Another problem with ABC is that it is in Lane County, and like all of the timber-based economy (or "broke") counties, sheriff patrols are drastically reduced in order to staff the jails due to revenue losses. This in turn forces the State Police to not only respond to emergency criminal complaints within the County but to handle all crashes on County roads. This has been the case since 1986 in Springfield, so that Patrol Office does not have many Game Troopers on hand (they are "authorized" 4 game personnel but are short-staffed, with the Game Troopers also responding to County calls for service). I don't know why Eugene PD couldn't swing by and do some checks as well, as any officer in the State of Oregon can enforce any State laws (plus it could bring some revenue to Eugene's general fund!). Maybe you could call or e-mail EPD to discuss that with them. Either way, good luck and sorry about the idiots without the licenses.

I can't resist a trivia note...I was at Spfld PD during the Sheriff's office first big budget crunch (1987). Over my 9 years at that office I got to respond on three separate occasions all the way out to Dexter for big fights at The Dexter Lake Club of "Animal House" fame.

Ha ha. No prob; I'm the king of cynicism.

If you're having a bad fishing day because of crowds, noise, and people fishing next to you doing dumb things, then you need to find another body of water to fish instead of complaining about it. What do you expect from a popular city waterway? Do some research and go fish somewhere where you'll have a good time catching fish while enjoying the surroundings and wildlife. Then perhaps you'll come home happy and in a good mood and post something a little more positive.

I don't believe every post on here should be positive, as fishing isn't always so. I agree with some of your points but I think teubie is making some valid points as well. People should not be able to break the laws, and you'd think ABC is one place they couldn't get away with it. He's not complaining, just telling it like it is. I personally would never fish it unless I was taking my daughter but I know people do. I'd rather get skunked while laying in the sun at a mountain lake or the Mac than fish ABC:D

How can you tell if people have a license or not? Mine never comes into view unless im getting checked or tagging a fish.

It's easy to tell Shane, they have long hair, dirty clothes, or are of a different ethnicity or social background....duh

I don't believe people should break the law either and I can't stand poachers. teubie was just venting. Read his post again.

Haha yeah. Im surprised Plumb2fish didn't ask to see my license before I stepped in his boat.

Teubie might be venting, but there isn't anything wrong with that. Like TD said, he calls if he sees more than 5 fish on a stringer. Teubie probably sees similar indicators, but a even if he is only guessing he does have a genuine concern. When I first started fishing I didn't know a lot about waters around us, most of them being some distance away. For all,we know Teubie might only have a bike or bus routes to get where he needs to go, or maybe is handicapped. I also used to go to places like Walling Pond/Walter Wirth, neither of which being hotbeds of pleasant or lawful fishermen. I could have left, but even places such as these should have the lawful and considerate anglers, while the others need to change their behavior or take off.

I hope you all have a Happy Easter. And if the above comes across as a rant against anyone, I assure you that my happy heart is not that way.

Love Ya,

E

Good points EJ. It's to bad that a few people can spoil a good day for many others. I can't stand poachers, snaggers, streamside litter, and low holers and I wouldn't hesitate to call in an illegal act. My dad once told me that if you don't like what you're doing, then one more minute is too much time to continue with it. For me, if a fishing spot is not enjoyable I won't go there anymore regardless of any limitations I might have. just say'n;)

I have to agree with the OP... if theres one thing I hate, its the Dutch, what the hell is up with the Belgium whip anyway? everyone knows that the tide effects steelhead feedin.. its a scientific fact, but they don't eat in the fresh stuff if ya know what I mean. Personally im ok with gay marriage.. now gay T.V... **** its hard enough to find something good on the boob tube already. Barbless hooks will ruin the columbia... I PROMISE! you will see. 1 out of five people of a non caucasian ethniticity have not been in jail, however, pretty much ALL male caucasians should have been in jail.. its nice being white.. thank you God. You know what else I hate.. birds, Bieber fever, burger king, square scrambled eggs, guys with hotter wives than mine, russians drivin silverados full of gill-nets, cops, politicians, the pope, other peoples dogs, miracle whip, the color magenta, ...... so in closing, what im really tryin to say here is that if anyone finds a spare cop just layin around please send him over to shoot the real criminal in my town... the P.O.S who owns the gas station... now theres a crime worth addressing-

Regardless if he is or not, he's in his best form.

People do the same stuff at Big Creek reservoir too! They stock Big Creek with thousands of fish each stocking and they're magically fished out in 4 days????? A friend of mine's mom is a mental health counciler, and she says one of her clients fishes Big Creek a lot and brought in 25 fish from one day!!!!!
