Hiking boot help

I'm looking for recommendations on what to buy. On my last outing, I was hiking into a steep river canyon and somehow had a blowout. Which of course I didn't notice until I stepped into the water to land a fish. Surprise! I'm looking for ones with great traction, durability and of course waterproof. Did some shopping today and most stores carry stuff that look like fancy work boots. Figured a lot of you do the kind of fishing I do and who's better to ask for advice.

Depends on your preference, but if you like a mid-height, I am quite fond of the Timberlands currently on a very good sale at Fisherman's. I just bought another pair even though I don't need them *yet*, because once I find a shoe that works I look for opportunities to pick up another pair at a good price.

I have used them for hunting in wet weather, on trail and off. A high boot would provide a lot more ankle support but I like the comfort of a mid.

I have also used them for wet weather hiking and also bank fishing, stepping in water up on the laces without any wettage. I wouldn't stand there long, mind you, but they are pretty waterproof. The only wet feet I've had are when the pants leg gets wet and the socks wick the moisture down the shoe.

How much you want to spend?

I have a sweet pair of Danners (that I got a crazy deal on), and they're pretty awesome. Takes a bit for the soles to soften up and get traction, but there are really good stuff... and with a retail value of $230, they darn well better be.

Actually Dr., I was wearing Gortex Danner's. They were good boots, but thought I would get a lot more life out of them. Thx pinstriper. Leaning towards Salomon. Also spendy but they have a two year warranty.

Mine are full, heavy leather. 600 grams of insulation makes them heavy, but my feet don't get cold.

If you took the old ones into Danner, they might cut you a deal.

Thx Dr. That's not a bad idea.

Ive rocked Danners for ever Pronghorn or Bighorn, both gortex. I have lighter keens for like hiking St helens, etc.

Danner Pronghorns for me!!!! Ive owned a pair of Morrels as well. Great boots but nothing beets my pronghorns!!! They are amazing! Check the Danner store in NE Portland for "seconds" as they call them. "Seconds" have simple flaws like scuffs, they are always close to 50% off but are only available in that location as far as I know.

Thanks for the input guys. I went with a pair of Salomon mid height backpacking boots for spring/summer. I will check out a pair of insulated Pronghorns for winter use. Will be sure to go to the factory store. Thx my2labs.

If you can wait go on black friday. Half of the entire store are seconds. And it's not like all the other ridiculous stores on that stupid day.
