Halibut season is now open but the ocean is closed

It's that time of year. Halibut season is open and the gear is ready. The boat has a full tank of gas, and the thermoses are ready to fill with coffee, the bait is in the freezer one problem. The ocean has told us to stay home. This weekends forecast is very ugly.

NW WIND 20 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 7 FT. NW SWELL 7 FT.

FRI
N WIND 20 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 5 FT. W SWELL 6 FT.

Not going to find the Teresa D out in that kind of stuff. We will wait for a softer day.

It looks like there may be a possibility to run out and give it a try this weekend. Tentative forecast for 2' wind wave 3' swell. Winds are not bad I just hope it holds or gets better. Osmosis it's good to here from you. Best of luck to you and the Newport fleet.

Made it out today and brought home a couple of nice flatties. I like it when the ocean cooperates. Long day and had to work for the two we got but it was a day well spent. Might give it an other shot Sunday. Pictures to come.

A friend went out yesterday -- said it was the calmest ocean he'd ever seen. And they didn't get any halibut. They gave up on halibut early afternoon, and got into lights-out, red-hot bottom fishing.

They must have went out of Newport area or Garibaldi. Much better bottom fishing than up here off the Columbia. The picture is a calm ocean last August it was nice but not as nice as the day in the picture.
