Frozen drag?

I hit the Slaw early this morning before work for a few hours and the drag on my brand new Shimano Sahara 4000 didn't work at all. I was pretty bummed so i grabbed my spinner rod with a brand new Sahara 2500 and the drag didn't work at all either:shock:. What the heck, what a way to start the day. I took the spool off and tried to mess with them a bit and the 2500 caught and started working. I got to work and at lunch checked the 4000 and it worked great. They were both in my truck last nite and it got pretty cold. Anyone else have this experience? Can the drag freeze or did i just happen to get 2 bunk reels. No wonder they were half price! Anyway, i got skunked :( as did everyone else i saw.) I figured the rain would bring in some fish but they weren't biting or weren't there. I'm sure someone had a great day today on the Slaw, wish i was there for the afternoon bite, kinda cold this morning.

Happened early January to me with my baitcaster reels, all 5 of them quit working. Oh it was 20 degrees out that morning and a bit cold...

I had the same problem last year. It was my braid slipping on the spool.

Thanks for the input guys. I never had this happen before so it was a bit strange, when the second reel didn't work i thought it may be the cold. The wierd thing is my baitcaster on my drifting rod worked fine.

I had problems with the drag freezing this season but that was when it was a lot colder in the mornings.

I fished on the 20 degree morning, frozen eye lits, frozen line on the real Even has some ice inside it too.

Yeah i fished in the snow this year and the eyes kept filling with ice. It was pretty cool and i hooked a couple so that always makes it more fun. Drag worked fine then, i think its because i used them the day before and left them in my truck overnite and the temps frooze. Must have had some water in there that frooze or something. I posted this pic before but i dig it so i'll do it again!

Had to chuckle when I read the above postings. Here in So. Oregon we've had a few mornings where the temps droped to the high teens, several in the mid-20's. Yesterday the high for the day was 68 degrees. Fishing in a T shirt.
