Frozen bait question

My dad socked away some salmon, and steelhead, roe--along with some herring packages. But, my dad hasn't been able to fish in over 4 years. So, it's all been in the freezer for at least that long. Maybe longer.

Mom was about to toss it all out, in the trash. But, I'm wondering if the bait is still good. If so, I'll find a new home for it--as mom wants it gone.

So...what say ye? Is this bait still usable? Or should we just chuck it out?

worst case- crab bait.
best case- what it was intended for. :D

was it in a chest freezer (not subject to regular defrosting) or defrosting freezer?

as for herring, I would be looking at the status of the vacuum seal, did it lose vacuum?

What roger said. If it looks good go test it out on a rod.

Ling cod/sturgeon bait!

Thanks guys.

It was all in a chest freezer; not a defrosting type. I'll check on the vacuum seals, on the herring.

Good luck out there...it's raining like crazy in the mid-valley this morning!
