Fished from bank at LOP on 1/26/13

Very calm conditions as the sun rose. Only saw a few fish pop the surface. The ramp is in great shape for boating, just waiting for Spring to arrive. No fish to speak of, but the geese were everywhere. Tried powerbait, worms, and salmon eggs for a few hours. Tried the surface and the bottom, but no luck. Can't wait for the crappie. Can anyone tell me if LOP is better for crappie than Hills Creek during the spawn and since we are in the Northwest, when is the spawn?

Like they say...any day of fishing...is better than the best day at work!

You might check w/ our Moderator Troutski. He's the go to guy, for Hills Creek Res.

Hills Creek does have some spectacular Crappie that is for sure... but Lookout Point has it bet hands down, larger and a greater population. The trick at Lookout is when and where to go for them, Hills Creek has much better access to get to the fish but everyone knows this (Bank and Bridge).... Combat fishing is not my cup of tea so to speak; so I chose Lookout Point for the platter sized fish.
Do you have access to a floating device? You will need one at Lookout Point, once you find them it is absolutely one of the greatest things one can do with your cloths on:dance: .

That is great, I wasn't really looking forward to traveling as far as Oakridge to catch crappie anyway. I have a 16' Hewes stub nose River Runner 50 horse and a 9 horse kicker that gets me just about anywhere. I so can't wait to hit LOP when they spawn. Is it the typical end of May until mid-July spawn or is it different here in the Northwest? I suppose the 3/8 ounce lead, yellow or white jig work in this lake as well?

You nailed it on all counts, the places I find them hanging is around School Creek and about a half mile down stream form Hampton boat ramp.. along the log jam on the east side of the lake. Place yourself in about 15 - 20' and vertical jig your favorite lead heads. I use light line and rods for them, much more fun this way. When the time gets near remind me and we can meet up for a afternoon of Slabs.
Tight lines and be safe on the water.

That sounds great, I look forward to it. In the meantime, I will educate myself more about where School Creek is.
