Went to Barton today, saw a few people, but didn't seem that folks were getting much. Started by the ramp and went upstream about 500 yards. Started with a bobber and jig tipped with a small bit of shrimp, set at about 5 feet. Tried to stay at the current breaks about 20 yards out. Worked my way upstream for about two hours and then (the oldest basketball tourney started at 1) switched to a #4 copper blue fox and worked back to the parking lot. For the spinner I cast upstream and tried to just barely keep the spinner turning on my retrieve.
Nothin,,, except after switching to the spinner I did see a pretty big white flash about ten feet in front of me... on the retrieve I felt like I was bouncing bottom then the flash. I waded out up to my hips most all the time if I could....
As I have never fished for steelhead before I have no idea if I was doing this right or in the right place for that area. Given I didn't catch anything (didn't look like anyone else did either). The river looked pretty clear and was not very high.
Any advice is welcome. I am trying to learn a stretch of river chunks at a time...
