First ever spring salmon.. chinook or coho?

Caught (and released) my first spring/summer salmon on the Sandy yesterday. I think its a Chinook. Put up a good fight but she wore out pretty quick.

that sure is a chinook. Look at the gumlines they are black also the spotting along the top. Those are a couple indicators of a chinook. Also we do not have Spring Coho, those are a fall run fish, as well as a fall run chinook. Congrats on your first springer

Nice bright springer there!
Since it's your first one, I'll just mention to try and keep them in the water for the release of the natives. The sand abrades their slime layer and eyes, kinda like rubbing yourself with 60 grit sandpaper.

Nice springer. I lost one 2 weeks ago on my second cast. I was rigged for steelhead with 12 pound mainline and fought a nice one for 15 minutes. My mainline snapped before my 8 pound leader did. Good job getting your first nook on the sandy.
