First ever coho on the Sandy River

This morning my wife and I headed out to the Sandy to try to catch our first Coho. We got to Dodge park around 6:30 and were on the on the water around 7:00. And a short time later I caught my first ever Coho! My wife was so excited the pictures came out blurry but I can say it won't be my last. I'm hooked! I was twitching a chartreuse 4 curly tail grub on a 3/8 oz jig head. We had a few other bites but no more hook ups.

Welcome to the forum and a lifelong addiction! :thumb: Keep the success stories (or skunk) and fish porn coming! We love them all.

You can bet I will keep posting. Speaking of getting skunked, a short while after I caught and released this one, we moved up to the Garbage Hole and my wife thought she had a snag until the "snag" started to move upriver! She knows now to set the hook if you think it might be a fish!

Welcome to the forum. That water looks sure looks good.

Nice fish but I swear that looks like a summer steelhead.

I was thinking the same thing, but it's kinda blurry and looks to have an adipose. Most summers are clipped. On the other hand, it looks long and lean like a steelie hen.

Good outing whatever it is. Did you guys get any pics of it after you got home kcnoel?

Best,

No, I had to release it as it wasn't clipped. If it was a steelhead, well that was a first as well! Personally I don't care what you call it, I'm calling it FUN!:D

Makes sense kc, for some reason I thought the Sandy was catch and keep for unclipped summer steel and coho, but that is only portions of the Willy.

Best and congrats on your catch!

ps. Welcome to OFF!

Tough to say. I can almost see a white gum line ( coho ) idk. Great job either way

Sure looks like a ho with the start of a kype in that first one to me. Either way, whatever it may have been congrats and welcome to the forum!

My first steelhead on a fly was caught just upstream from the bridge at Dodge Park on the Sandy. It was 8 1/2 lbs bright and chromy, jumped three times, and almost bent my 7wt in half. You bet it's fun!

Congratulations on your first.

Going out again dark and early on Saturday and giving it another try. Thanks for all the welcomes.
