Anybody fished Eagle Creek recently? When do the steelies start coming in? I have fished EC a few times last winter but didn't have much success. It seems like its a river that if you don't know where to fish, you wont have much success.

Rumor has it no more hatchery winters

Funding?

I just looked into it, It looks like its still going, I think they might have just started allocating more resources to the coho. Im not sure but I heard that the clipped winter run has all but dropped off. Wish I could be more help. Sorry.

Last year i got one out of the creek on 11/23. Traditionally the strain eagle creek uses is an early returning one, and is different from the brood stock the clackamas river hatchery uses. I dont know if they are still planting, but there should still be fish returning this year. Also a bird told me that they "have" switched to a brood stock and are phasing out their original strain of plants. IDK if this is true, whatever lol...... There should be fish now. If you dont mind hiking its a beautiful place. a lot of people have success drifting yarn balls, or as fly fishermen seem to prefer "egg paterns".

The Hatchery should be giving me a call back today.... The past years up until last the creek popped like no other... Just as good if not better than any coastal stream I fish... 6,7 or 8 hookups in one morning wasn't out of the ordinary... This all changed last year...Broke my little heart. It's cause of the funds... They only received 300 fish this last season...

Ya, I usually fish the Alsea or the Siletz but thats a drive since I'm not living in Corvallis anymore. It would just be nice to find a sweet little river around here to fish. I live close to the Clackamas River but haven't spent much time on it because I always go to other rivers.
